The Granville Bed & Breakfast

Access Statement

 

Introduction

Our home is set on the Western side of the Isle of Wight. It is in a quiet semi rural location and offers three guest bedrooms.The house is Victorian and is over 150 years old. Whilst we aim to meet the needs of all our guests there are some features that might make access difficult for people with limited mobility. All our bedrooms are on the first floor and there are 18 stairs with 2 breaks half way up. Because of the stairs the rooms would not be accessible for wheelchairs. There is no lift.

Pre-arrival

We are located on a quiet main road, which has easy and level access to the front door; there is a very small step at the threshold of the door. We have a private car park which has double gates, these need to be kept closed at all times. The drive is made up of gravel which is fairly level. The nearest shop is 200 meters away. The beach is 2 minutes walk away for the able body. To gain access to the beach there is a small winding road or you can use the stairs both are fairly steep but there is easy access via a car. There is a good bus service which is located about 600 meters away, you will need to cross a road to enter Granville Road. There is a good supply of Taxi’s. The nearest Ferry is The Wight link ferry from Lymington to Yarmouth which is approx 5 minutes by car. There is a bus service and plenty of Taxi’s we can arrange to book a Taxi for you. We can book a ferry for you; this is best done several days in advance. We also can arrange a pick up service if arranged in advance. We will help you with your luggage. Arrival and Car Parking

Please advise us of your anticipated arrival time so that we can be sure we are here to welcome you. To be sure that your accommodation is ready we ask guests not arrive before 4.30pm. Earlier arrivals may, however be arranged in advance. Check-out time is 10.30am on day of departure. Parking is through a double gate, which needs to be closed at all times. The parking area is gravelled. We offer assistance with luggage.

Main Entrance

There is parking outside the house on the road. The pathway is level and has easy access to the front door. There is a very small step at the threshold of the doorway. The front door will be locked so please ring bell on arrival after which you will have your own key.

Guest Accommodation – Public Areas

The Hall way is wide and spacious it leads directly to the stairs which you will need to climb (18) to gain access to your room. There is no lift. To the left of the hallway is the Morning Room where we serve Breakfast. This room is very large and is also used during the day and evenings as the Guest Lounge with easy access to well positioned Sofa’s and straight backed chairs of different heights. There is a 42inch projector TV for easy viewing, DVD player and Radio for you to use. The flooring downstairs is Solid Wood. A selection of local information, maps, magazines, books and board games are available in the lounge. We are not licensed for the sale of alcohol but Guests can bring there own and/or a take away as long as the food is consumed in the dining room and not taken up to the bedrooms.

Laundry

There is an iron and ironing board available on request.

Leisure Facilities

We have leisure facilities in the village with a swimming pool, sports hall, gym and coffee shop.

Medical Centre

There is a large medical centre in the village. We have booklets available for your information.

Shop

General store. ‘Costcutters’ 200 meters, level pathway, opposite side of road.

Public WC

One public WC just off the dining room down one step, through two doorways.

Bedrooms

All three bedrooms are on the first floor. There is no elevator; guests need to be able to use the stairs. The bedrooms and stairs are carpeted throughout. All rooms have en-suite facilities consisting of a powerful Shower, WC, and wash basin, one room has a bath/shower. A well stocked hospitality tray, water filter and kettle is provided in each room. Free view TV/Radio, hairdryer and ironing facilities. Our beds are normally made up with duvets which are synthetic, all our pillows are synthetic, we can provide feather pillows if ordered in advance. We are happy to provide sheets and blankets if required, please specify before you arrive if required. There is an open plan wardrobe, chest of drawers and a dressing table with wall mounted mirror in each room. The rooms are well lit and have several table lamps. Each room has an easy chair. Blackout curtains or blinds. Heated towel rail. Thermostatically controlled heating in the winter. There is an information package in each room which contains further information and details about the house, emergency contacts numbers including Doctors, Hospitals and Taxi’s.  

Bedroom 1 ‘The Osborne Room’

Osborne has a king sized bed with easy access to all sides. Two table lamps and a dressing table lamp with mirror and a full length mirror. Private Shower en-suite, WC and wash basin.

Bedroom 2 ‘The Carisbrooke Room’

Carisbrooke has a king sized bed with easy access to both sides. Two table lamps and a dressing lamp with mirror and a full length mirror.

Bedroom 3 ‘The Dimbola Room’

Dimbola has twin single beds with easy access to all sides. A table lamp each and a dressing lamp with mirror and a full length mirror. Private Shower en-suite, WC and wash basin.  

Gardens

We have a large garden with lawns flower beds and patio, the patio is a designated smoking area. Guests are welcome to use the gardens at all times. Access to the gardens is via the front gate or the patio doors at the side of the Morning lounge. If you use this way there is a large step down to the patio level and further steps down to the garden. Sun loungers and garden chairs are available for guests to use, table and parasol.

Additional Information

There are fire extinguishers on the premises please read fire plan. If there is a fire the alarm will sound. Please advise if you have a hearing impairment and might not hear this. The building can be evacuated via the front door at the bottom of the stairs from the entrance hall, also there is an exit through the laundry room half way down the main stairs, or through the kitchen into the back garden. We do not permit smoking in the house but you may smoke on the patio where ashtrays will be provided on request. We cater for special diets or any particular likes or dislikes. Please advise us well before arrival. We are happy to refrigerate any medication or perishables in our fridge for limited periods. Mobile phone reception is poor but this can be picked up outside the building or you are welcome to use our BT line at a small charge to cover costs.
